Upcoming posts: rare 1957 Mercedes 300SL

This 1957 Mercedes 300SL restoration began in February 2010.  This was my first project after relocating from Orange County, CA to Denver, CO.  My first task was to rebuild the front end of the 300SL (See Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3).  This included the mouth, adjoining left-hand and right-hand headlights, surrounding sheet metal, complete right-hand fender rebuild, and right-hand and left-hand wings.  That was followed by section rebuilds and inner fender panels.  All areas mentioned were made from scratch after taking patterns from another original 1957 Mercedes 300SL gull-wing.

The metal work  was completed in late May 2010.  In the upcoming weeks I will post a blow by blow explanation accompanied with photos of how I arrived at the end result below.
