1931 American Austin Restoration for Pebble Beach: Part 3

This is part three in a series of posts on this American Austin,  Part One describes the history of the Austin and presents photos of the car before any restoration work. Part Two shows the condition of the Austin after return from media blasting and describes the donor chassis. Part Three covers the restoration of the chassis and mechanical parts. Part Four begins covering the metal work part of the restoration and talks about starting the new floor construction. Part Five follows on the floor rebuild and presents photos of the tunnel damage and restoration.  Part Six describes the finishing of the right-hand floor rebuild and restoration.

This section covers the restoration of the chassis and mechanical components to date.  Along with the body the chassis was media blasted after all the components were removed.  The chassis and mechanical pieces had to restored by collectively using the original chassis and two others as donors.  Each mechanical component was in poor repair requiring various levels of restoration and machining, after heat was needed to separate many parts.  All relevant hardware was cadium plated to the original American Austin specifications.  All painted mechanical components were then assembled as shown below.
